THE GARDEN SERIES The Garden Series is an ongoing edition of painted vessels developed through wheel-forming, alteration, assembly, glazing and firing. The series explores gesture through the garden as a site of natural forces, built forms and accumulated surface traces. Floral forms appear and dissolve across curved surfaces, alongside broader fields of colour, fragments of petals and leaves, wet surfaces, weathered ornament and areas that suggest sky, stone and earth. The garden is treated as both a natural and constructed landscape, shaped by walls, terraces, fountains, paths and other architectural fragments. The series draws on gardens that have been made and then left alone. Overgrown backyards with cracked concrete, rusted metalwork, painted surfaces, old pots and weathered ornaments. These landscapes sit somewhere between the built and the natural, gradually shaped by rain, sun, soil, neglect and use.



GLAZE TESTSGlaze Tests is a group of experimental jug and vase forms developed in 2025. The works use wheel-thrown alteration, compressed-clay handles and experimental glaze combinations to investigate colour, surface and kiln behaviour. Glaze names and formula notes appear across some pieces as records of the testing process. The collection marks the beginning of an ongoing approach to glaze testing, where material variation and firing outcomes remain visible in the finished work. Some works draw associations with oxidation, mineral staining, rust, erosion and weathering. The vessels sit between studio object, constructed form and material record, with variation and firing outcomes retained as part of the finished work.

NOTES 

An ocean wave emanates from a central disturbance, sending cylindrical rings of energy outward toward the coast. As it reaches shallower water, the wave steepens, throws its lip, and spills over. In the pocket or beneath the curling lip, surfing across the glassy face, the wave breaks. Water, air, and whitewash collide flicking, rumbling, spitting-tumbled by inertia and held within the wave’s collapse.

Torque is an assemblage of wheel-thrown components including handles, vessels, and offcuts, cut and rejoined using screws, epoxy putty, and cornice adhesive. Surface finishes register the immediacy of process: glaze drips, oxide burns, fingerprints, and brushwork. These are marks of force and decision, held in the tension between making and breaking. The form holds a twisting force, reflecting the embodied mechanics of making: the physics of throwing, joining, resisting, and suspending. The result is both structural and gestural shaped through intuitive construction and spontaneous response.
