An ocean wave emanates from a central disturbance, sending cylindrical rings of energy outward toward the coast. As it reaches shallower water, the wave steepens, throws its lip, and spills over. In the pocket or beneath the curling lip, surfing across the glassy face, the wave breaks. Water, air, and whitewash collide flicking, rumbling, spitting-tumbled by inertia and held within the wave’s collapse.
Torque is an assemblage of wheel-thrown components including handles, vessels, and offcuts, cut and rejoined using screws, epoxy putty, and cornice adhesive. Surface finishes register the immediacy of process: glaze drips, oxide burns, fingerprints, and brushwork. These are marks of force and decision, held in the tension between making and breaking. The form holds a twisting force, reflecting the embodied mechanics of making: the physics of throwing, joining, resisting, and suspending. The result is both structural and gestural shaped through intuitive construction and spontaneous response.
