Working primarily with ceramics, Mason uses traditional potters’ techniques as a framework for material testing and formal experimentation. Works are developed through wheel-throwing, glaze application, firing and post-fired construction. Across functional forms and larger sculptural works, clay is treated as a responsive material, shaped by process, surface, colour, heat and assembly.
Tom Mason Studio brings together work previously developed under Functional Sculpture. Selected works are currently presented with BESS Paddington, where Mason’s vessels sit in conversation with flowers, architectural details and the shop’s material language.
