BESS Paddington
Filigree continues the architectural reliefs and impressions collection developed for BESS Paddington in 2025, extending the series as an ongoing body of work shaped by the store’s architectural features.
The motifs draw from decorative architectural patterns found throughout Paddington’s historic interiors and terrace houses, including plaster cornices, cast-iron filigree, pressed-tin motifs and other domestic ornament. These details are translated through wheel-thrown jugs and vases, with pressed surfaces, evolving handles and small iterative shifts in form reflecting process and experimentation.
The series began with a pressed-tin floral tile collected during the renovation of the BESS shop at 27 William Street, and has expanded into a broader library of impressions drawn from Paddington’s domestic decoration. The collection also continues earlier explorations such as the BESS Brick, developed in response to local material histories and early brickmaking.
